Biography

Andy Sims leads the Applied Bioinformatics of Cancer Research Group at the University of Edinburgh Cancer Research UK Centre. His research interests are wide and varied, but could be summed up simply as ‘trying to make sense of lots of data, to improve our understanding of cancer’. The ABC group analyses locally generated and publicly available high-throughput ‘omic datasets to investigate the molecular basis of cancer predisposition, initiation, response to treatment or other interventions and prognosis. Key themes are evaluating biomarkers, data integration – combining data of the same or different types and assessing the relevance of cancer models to the clinical setting.
