Biography

Simak Ali is Professor of Molecular Endocrine Oncology in the Division of Cancer at Imperial College London. He graduated in 1985 with a BSc in Biochemistry from Imperial College London. For his PhD, he investigated mechanisms of gene regulation in the developing, pregnancy and lactating mammary gland, gaining his PhD in Genetics from The Roslin Institute and University of Edinburgh in 1989. An EMBO long-term fellowship allowed him to undertake post-doctoral training in the laboratory of Prof Pierre Chambon, at the LGME, Strasbourg, France (1989–1992). He joined Charing Cross Medical School in 1992, where he started his own group, investigating mechanisms of estrogen receptor action in breast cancer, resistance to endocrine therapies and new therapeutic for the treatment of endocrine-resistance breast cancer.

He has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, has served as a member of scientific committees and acts as a senior editor for the international journals ‘Oncogene’ and the ‘Journal of Endocrinology’ and ‘Journal of Molecular Endocrinology’.
