Biography

Emeritus Professor of Breast Oncology, Institute of Cancer Research, London. Consultant Breast Oncologist and Medical Director at Cancer Centre London. Medical accreditations in endocrinology and medical oncology. PhD at the ICR in molecular pathology of bone metastases.
Previously Head of Breast Cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Clinical work has focused on prevention, risk assessment, diagnosis and early treatment of breast cancer.
Research has focused on chemoprevention of breast cancer using SERMs, the treatment and prevention of bone metastases and primary medical treatment of breast cancer.
Awards have included the Komen Brinker Award and the McGuire Award at San Antonio. He received a CBE in recognition of his services to breast cancer patients and subsequently the National ‘Pride of Britain’ Award for exceptional contributions to breast cancer research and treatment. His charity work includes being a Patron of Breast Cancer Care, a Trustee of Breakthrough and he is now a Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Board of Breast Cancer Now.
